“The Kind Provision Of The Lord”

Colossians 1:9-12, “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.” NIV

I. The Knowledge Of God’s Will – v. 9

“Dealing With Difficulty” , 4/26/2020

“Dealing With Difficulty”
I Kings 18-19; Psalm 88; I Peter 1:6-7

I. “Lament” Isn’t What It Used To Be

A. Medieval Thoughts

Psalm 44:23, “Rouse yourself! Why do you sleep, O Lord?”

Psalm 89:49 says, “Lord, where is your steadfast love of old, which by your faithfulness you swore to David?”

B. Jeremiah 15:18

C. Job’s Brutal Honesty

Matthew 12:20, it is said that Jesus will “…not break the bruised reed or snuff out the dying candle.” This means that Jesus cares for the fragile who find “lament” not far from their hearts.
Psalm 147:3, “The Lord binds up the brokenhearted and heals our wounds.”

II. We Are Not Broken Off

A. Elijah – I Kings 18-19

1 Kings 19:4, “Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary … tree and prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, Lord,’ he said. ‘Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.’”

I Kings 19:5-6, “…as he was sleeping, an angel touched him and told him, ‘Get up and eat!’ 6 He looked around and there beside his head was some bread baked on hot stones and a jar of water! So he ate and drank and lay down again.”

B. Heman the Ezrahite – Psalm 88

Psalm 88:3-4, “I am overwhelmed with troubles and my life draws near to death. 4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like one without strength.”

Psalm 88:14,16-18, “Why, Lord, do you reject me and hide your face from me? …16 Your wrath has swept over me; your terrors have destroyed me. 17 All day long they surround me like a flood; they have completely engulfed me. 18 You have taken from me friend and neighbor— darkness is my closest friend.” NIV

III. Difficulty And Rejoicing

A. I Peter 1:6-7

B. “Heart” And “Emotions”

Psalm 56, “This I Know, God is on My Side”, 4/19/2020

Psalm 56, “This I Know, God Is On My Side”
1 Samuel 21:12-15

I. A Statement Of Trouble – vv. 1-2

II. A Statement Of Faith
Psalm 56:3-4, “But when I am afraid, I put my trust in you. 4 O God, I praise your
word. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to
me?”

A. Fear & Faith

B. Word & Worry

This is an expression of faith and trust in God and His Word which is not saying,
“now life will be perfect and nothing can go wrong,” it is an expression of faith
and trust in God which says, “anything that happens will only produce more
faith and more trust in God.”

III. More Faith
Psalm 56:8-11, “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears
in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book. 9 On the very day I call
to you for help, my enemies will retreat. This I know: God is on my side. 10 O
God, I praise your word. Yes, LORD, I praise your word. 11 I trust in God, so why
should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?”

A. The Care Of God
Psalm 55:22, “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you.”

B. This I Know: God Is On Our Side

IV. The Voice Of Confidence
Psalm 56:12-13, “I will fulfill my vows to you, O God, and offer a sacrifice of
thanks for your help. 13 For you have rescued me from death; you have kept my
feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving
light.”
